Stepping Down, Staying Connected: My Thank You to the T1D Tribe

To each and every member of the Type 1 Tribe,
I can hardly believe it's been almost three years since I took over the reins of the Family Centre from our inspirational founding CEO, Bec Johnson.
These have been challenging but transformative years for the Family Centre and we have achieved so much together. This culminated recently in our securing our first-ever State Government funding package – a landmark moment in our 10-year history. We've expanded our reach beyond metro WA into rural areas and even across Australia, growing our impact and support for people affected by type 1 diabetes.

I am so proud of the organisation and the dedicated team here. The work done at the Centre truly changes the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes. Not least of all my own. I hate to imagine where I would be if I hadn’t stumbled on this place so many years ago.
All of this makes the next piece of news very difficult to share. It is with truly mixed emotions – excitement for a new chapter, but real sadness to be leaving – that I announce I will be stepping down as CEO in July.
This wasn't an easy decision. This place is my home, you are my tribe, and I've poured my heart and soul (and sometimes literally bled, demonstrating those HbA1c tests to sponsors!) into our mission. This Centre is so special, and I will deeply miss the daily interactions, the laughter, the tears, and the triumphs we've shared.
However, my family and I have been offered a unique opportunity to relocate to Tasmania, where I'll be taking on the role of CEO at The District Nurses, one of Tasmania’s oldest and most respected charities. It's a significant opportunity that we felt we couldn't pass up.
Please rest assured, the Family Centre is in stronger shape than ever, and its vital work will not only continue, but expand. The commitment to advancing the interests of people with type 1 diabetes, and transforming health and community support, remains unwavering. The Board has already begun a search for a new CEO to lead the next exciting chapter, and the amazing team here is fully committed to continuing the world-class work you rely on.
And don't worry, you won't get rid of me that easily! You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming from our Facebook groups. As we all know, T1D doesn't take a holiday, so I fully intend to remain part of the Tribe and will be accessing the fantastic telehealth services myself from my new lounge room in chilly Tassie!
It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve as CEO of this wonderful place. Thank you for welcoming me, for sharing your journeys, and for putting up with my terrible jokes.
With deepest gratitude,
Benjamin – The Dia-boss
